Fusing elements of alt rock and prog metal, Neotokyo craft songs that drift from direct and to-the-point, to intricate multi-movement epics. The band were formed in late 2011 in Sydney, Australia.
In 2012 Neotokyo cut their teeth as a live unit; playing sold out shows at Sydney's iconic rock venues, including the Annandale Hotel and the Metro Theatre, garnering a strong following with punters and peers along the way.
With many local shows to their credit but only a handful of demos recorded, Neotokyo took to the studio to record what became their debut EP 'Pillars'. With pre-production from Lucius Borich (Cog/Floating Me/The Nerve) the EP was tracked in Sydney and mixed by Englishman Chris Sheldon (Gyroscope/Biffy Clyro/ Oceansize). It was well-received by fans and critics alike, with lead single 'Speak' receiving national distribution through Blunt Magazine.
The four track catalogued the multi-facetted nature of the band, featuring the blistering prog-metal of 'Speak' with the softer mood-shifting 'Red' and the linear epic 'Fight, Fight'. The launch of Pillars sold out Sydney's Annandale Hotel and stood out as a landmark event for for the band.
2013 saw Neotokyo book a run of shows with some of the best in Australia and overseas, including NZ rockers I Am Giant, Electric Horse, Jericco and prog metal wunderkinds Breaking Orbit. Throw in the release of an animated video for the single Speak and guitarist Adam being featured in Australian Guitar Magazine as 'Guitarist to Watch' and it's been a big start to 2013.
Neotokyo plan to bunker down to record new material in the backend of 2013, with a single and East Coast tour on the cards. Neotokyo are Adam Furness (guitar), Chris Tantchev (vocals), MIchael Bargache (bass) and Jason Ludwig (drums).
